During World War II, German medics used tags to document and manage soldiers' internal illnesses. These tags included information on the nature and severity of the illness, treatment administered, and the soldier's identification details. This system ensured efficient triage and appropriate medical care as soldiers were moved from the battlefield to medical facilities.
The stripes on these tags were used to determine the soldier's transportability and whether their illness was contagious:
- Yellow Stripe: Fit for transport (contagious)
- Green Stripe: Fit for transport (not contagious)
- No stripe: Able to march (not contagious)
